The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured air travellers of enhanced preventive measures at international airports following concerns over reported cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in parts of Central Africa.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire.

Agbebire said the authority is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and Port Health Services to strengthen health surveillance systems aimed at early detection and rapid response to any potential public health threat.

According to him, passenger monitoring and screening measures have been intensified, particularly for travellers arriving from high-risk regions, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the importation of infectious diseases.

He explained that passengers are being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola Virus Disease, and any suspected case would be promptly isolated and subjected to further medical evaluation in line with national and international health protocols.

Agbebire also noted that coordination among relevant aviation and health stakeholders has been strengthened, alongside increased staff sensitisation and improved emergency response preparedness at airports nationwide.

He added that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria remains committed to safeguarding public health while ensuring smooth airport operations across the country.

“Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed Ebola case,” he said, urging passengers to remain calm, comply with screening procedures, and promptly report any symptoms to health officials.

“The authority wants to advise passengers to remain calm, cooperate with screening procedures and report any symptoms to health officials promptly,” he added.

FAAN reaffirmed that its operations continue to align with its mandate of ensuring safe, secure, and efficient airport services nationwide.
