Blue Lagos Initiatives has entered into a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) to expand access to healthcare services in riverine and coastal communities through the deployment of a telemedicine scheme across 152 underserved settlements in Lagos State.

The partnership was formalized during a high-level meeting between the Blue Lagos delegation led by its Convener, Saheed Adesanya, and the management team of LASHMA headed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba.

The meeting focused on exploring innovative healthcare solutions capable of addressing the unique challenges faced by residents of hard-to-reach communities and strengthening access to essential medical services across the state.

Under the proposed initiative, telemedicine services will be deployed to 152 riverine and coastal communities, enabling residents to consult healthcare professionals remotely and access medical advice, referrals, follow-up care, and other critical health services without the burden of long-distance travel.

Speaking on the development, Adesanya described the collaboration as a significant milestone in efforts to improve healthcare delivery in coastal communities.

According to him, access to quality healthcare remains a basic right for every citizen, noting that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that residents of riverine and coastal areas are not excluded from essential health services.

He stated that technology-driven healthcare solutions would help bridge existing gaps and bring professional medical support closer to the people.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and supporting initiatives that promote universal health coverage across Lagos State.

She stressed the importance of leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to reach vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations, adding that innovative healthcare delivery models remain critical to improving public health outcomes.

The Telemedicine Scheme is expected to reduce barriers to healthcare access, improve consultation and referral services, promote preventive healthcare, and enhance the overall wellbeing of thousands of residents living in Lagos State’s coastal and riverine communities.

Both organizations agreed to sustain engagements on implementation strategies, stakeholder mobilization, community sensitization, and partnership frameworks to ensure the successful rollout and long-term sustainability of the project.

  2. Telemedicine initiation by Blue Lagos and LASHMA is a very interesting Idea to bring medical practice closer to the riverine communities, if it’s happen I will advise that maternity treatment should be given priority because most pregnant women and their children get infected during child bearing and lot more.
