The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims made by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo in her resignation letter, insisting that she was treated fairly and accorded the same rights and opportunities as other aspirants during her brief membership of the party.
Senator Obasanjo had announced her resignation from the APC in a letter dated May 31, 2026, citing alleged disrespect, intimidation of supporters, and other grievances as reasons for her departure.
Responding to the allegations, the Ogun APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Femi Nuberu, said the party remained committed to democratic principles, fairness, and freedom of association, stressing that every member has the right to make personal political decisions.
According to the party, Senator Obasanjo joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only a few weeks before the commencement of the governorship primary election and was given a level playing field alongside other aspirants.
The party stated that the primary process eventually produced a consensus candidate, an outcome that Senator Obasanjo publicly accepted and pledged to support in the interest of party unity, inclusiveness, and equity for a section of the state that had not previously produced a governor.
The APC described several assertions contained in her resignation letter as inconsistent with the realities of her experience within the party, maintaining that she enjoyed the same privileges and opportunities available to every aspirant and that the process was transparent, inclusive, and devoid of discrimination or intimidation.
Nuberu noted that Senator Obasanjo’s decision to leave the party shortly after joining it appeared to reinforce the perception that her membership was primarily driven by the ambition to secure the party’s governorship ticket rather than a long-term commitment to its ideals and objectives.
The party further argued that it was difficult to reconcile allegations of exclusion and unfair treatment with the fact that she was welcomed into the APC shortly before the governorship primary and participated fully in the party’s activities and processes.
According to the APC, politics is built on loyalty, patience, sacrifice, and commitment to shared values, adding that democratic contests naturally produce winners and losers.
The party pointed out that many respected leaders and aspirants who did not secure their desired outcomes in the party’s internal contests had remained loyal and continued to work for the growth and electoral success of the APC.
It also maintained that politics should be guided by collective aspirations and democratic principles rather than personal ambitions, noting that several party stakeholders had continued to place the party’s overall interest above individual goals.

The APC further questioned the basis of some of the grievances raised by Senator Obasanjo, observing that aspects of the governorship primary process were still ongoing at the time she submitted her resignation.
While reiterating its respect for her constitutional right to associate with any political platform of her choice, the party wished the former senator success in her future political endeavours.
The Ogun APC reaffirmed its commitment to unity, inclusiveness, internal democracy, and the continued growth of the party ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
