The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a new 300 MegaVolt Ampere (MVA) power transformer at its 330/132/33 kilovolts (kV) Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos, increasing the facility’s capacity and strengthening electricity supply in parts of the state.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

According to her, the addition of the new transformer has increased the substation’s capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA, thereby enhancing bulk power availability to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) for onward distribution to customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede and surrounding communities.

Speaking during the inauguration, the General Manager (Transmission), TCN Lagos Region, Mr. Adeshina Adeonipekun, said the project was completed in-house by the company’s engineers in a record-breaking six weeks.

Adeonipekun noted that the project forms part of efforts to strengthen the national transmission network and improve power delivery across the country.

The development is expected to improve system reliability, reduce load constraints, and support increased power supply to consumers within IKEDC’s franchise areas.
