President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The extension, announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, followed the swift passage of the amendment by both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
With the presidential assent, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government now have an additional three months to implement projects and programmes covered by the 2025 budget.
According to the Presidency, the extension is intended to provide MDAs with more time to complete ongoing capital projects and ensure that funds already appropriated are fully utilised for the benefit of Nigerians.
The decision also seeks to prevent disruptions to critical government programmes and projects that could arise from the expiration of the budget implementation period.
The Presidency said the amendment would allow the government to sustain the implementation of ongoing projects while ensuring that appropriated funds are deployed to their intended purposes.

Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.
The President described the development as another indication of the cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in advancing national development.
The extension comes as federal government agencies continue to implement capital expenditure programmes contained in the 2025 budget, with the additional period expected to facilitate the completion of projects and programmes that remain outstanding.
The 2025 budget implementation period was initially scheduled to end on September 30, 2026, but the latest amendment extends the deadline by three months to December 31, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Onanuga on behalf of the Presidency on September 30, 2026.
