The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has warned its members against engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the forthcoming National and State Assembly elections.
The warning was issued at a closed-door stakeholders’ meeting presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke, where the party resolved to sanction members found supporting candidates of rival political parties.
The party said it had received reports alleging that some of its members and leaders were supporting candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Action Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It warned that members found sponsoring, campaigning for or otherwise working for legislative candidates of other parties would face severe disciplinary measures.
“Under no circumstances should any Accord member be caught sponsoring or working for legislative candidates of other political parties. Such behaviour will not be tolerated,” the stakeholders resolved.
The meeting also resolved that disagreements arising from the selection of legislative candidates should be addressed internally, stressing that members were expected to support candidates already fielded by the party.
To address reported cases of disloyalty, the stakeholders constituted a committee to investigate constituencies where anti-party activities had allegedly been reported and recommend appropriate action.
The state leadership was also directed to intensify monitoring across constituencies to identify members involved in anti-party activities and call them to order.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Adeleke commended party members for what he described as their steadfast support during the electioneering process.
He said the commitment of party members had contributed significantly to the party’s political activities in the state, urging them to remain loyal to the party.
“I am deeply grateful to our party members for their depth of loyalty and courageous disposition throughout the democratic struggle. Osun people trusted us and they fought for us under the divine direction of God Almighty,” Adeleke said.
The governor also commended the people of Osun State, the electoral commission, party leaders and members for their roles in the democratic process.
“We praise God Almighty, the courageous people of Osun State, the electoral commission and you, our loyal party members and leaders. I will remain steadfast in my commitment to the people, the party and God Almighty,” he added.
Adeleke urged members to support Accord candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections, warning that anyone working against the party’s candidates would be sanctioned.

“I task us to support our party candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections. We must avoid anti-party activities. Severe sanction awaits any party member who works against the candidates of the party,” he said.
He also directed the party’s candidates to engage with different groups within the organisation and ensure that their campaigns were inclusive.
“I have also tasked our candidates to reach out to all segments of the party. We must run an inclusive campaign. All shades of opinion must be mobilised for resounding success in future elections,” the governor said.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for party unity, internal cohesion and stronger mobilisation ahead of the legislative elections.
