United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has announced the retirement of Angela Adebayo as a Non-Executive Director, bringing to a close over six years of service on the bank’s board.
The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by the Group Company Secretary, Bili Odum, and dated May 4, 2026.
Adebayo, who joined the UBA Group Board in August 2018, was commended by the bank for her dedication and impactful contributions during her tenure.
The board expressed appreciation for her role in strengthening governance and strategic oversight within the institution.
“United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA), Africa’s Global Bank, announces the retirement of Erelu Angela Adebayo, a Non-Executive Director, who joined the UBA Group Board in August 2018,” the statement read.
“The Board of UBA expresses its deep appreciation to Erelu Angela Adebayo for her dedication and significant contributions to the Group and wishes her the best in her future endeavours.”
During her time on the board, Adebayo served on several key committees, including Board Audit and Governance, Credit, Board Risk Management, and Board Operations and Technology, where she played a vital role in shaping policy and institutional direction.
A seasoned professional, Adebayo brings decades of experience spanning corporate governance, real estate, and philanthropy.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the University of Ibadan, an MBA from the University of Lagos, and an MPhil in Land Economy from University of Cambridge.
Beyond her corporate career, she previously served as First Lady of Ekiti State and has held leadership roles including Chairman of Afriland Properties Plc and the first female chairman of WEMABOD Estates.
She currently serves on the boards of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Meyer Paints Plc, and Women at Risk International Foundation.
She is also a Council Member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and founder of the Erelu Adebayo Foundation and Children’s Home.
