A 26-year-old man, Victor John, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly obtaining N1.1 million under false pretence.
John, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of fraud. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence in 2025 at about 2:20 p.m. at Ewupe, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that John fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.1 million from the complainant, Mohammad Ogunniyi, under the pretence of carrying out tiling works.
The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant allegedly converted the money to his personal use instead of executing the tiling project as agreed.

According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 10 for further hearing.
