The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 general election available online following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders over access to the register.

The commission announced the decision on Monday, October 26, 2026, saying the move was intended to improve transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.

In a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission said the register could be accessed through its online platform at https://display.inecnigeria.org.

The online publication provides access to the same preliminary register that was physically displayed at Registration Areas nationwide between October 9 and 15, 2026.

INEC said the decision followed concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the need to make the register available online in addition to the physical display.

According to the commission, the physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, giving registered voters the opportunity to inspect their particulars and submit claims and objections as provided by law.

The online platform is intended to extend access to the register beyond the physical locations where it was initially displayed.

INEC said the additional measure was in furtherance of its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

The commission also acknowledged the interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians and other stakeholders regarding the exercise.

INEC said it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the preliminary register display in preparation for the certification and publication of the final register.

The commission scheduled December 15, 2026, for the publication of the Final Register of Voters ahead of the 2027 general election.

The processing of claims and objections is part of the process of addressing discrepancies and ensuring that the register is finalised in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

INEC reiterated its commitment to implementing the law and delivering credible elections, urging continued public engagement with the electoral process.
