President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth term, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
In a congratulatory message dated October 26, 2026, Tinubu described Lula’s renewed mandate as an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, which dates back to 1961.
The Nigerian leader said the two countries, as leading nations of the Global South, could work together to promote economic integration and advance shared interests amid changes in the global order.
“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, dating back to 1961,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu identified trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange as priority areas for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
He said stronger engagement across these sectors would provide opportunities for both nations to advance their economic interests and deepen bilateral partnerships.
