The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has warned accredited insolvency practitioners in Nigeria to complete their accreditation renewal by December 1, 2026, or risk automatic suspension and loss of eligibility to handle insolvency-related assignments.

The commission also directed all accredited practitioners, including those whose certificates have not expired, to undergo fresh registration as part of its drive to automate operations and strengthen the security of professional records.

The directives were contained in a notice issued by the CAC management on October 14, 2026, which urged affected practitioners to comply with the requirements to avoid disruption to their professional activities.

According to the commission, the three-year accreditation validity and renewal requirement are provided for under Section 705 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, and Regulation 1.07 of the Insolvency Regulations, 2022.

It stressed that practitioners whose accreditation is due for renewal must complete the process on or before December 1, 2026.

Failure to meet the deadline, the CAC warned, would automatically result in suspension, making the affected practitioners ineligible to undertake or continue insolvency assignments.

In addition to the renewal exercise, the commission said all accredited insolvency practitioners must re-register, irrespective of whether their existing accreditation remains valid.

The CAC explained that the exercise was necessary to support its end-to-end automation process and update practitioners’ identification records in line with the National Identity Management Commission Act, 2026.

It added that new certificates with enhanced security features would be issued to practitioners who successfully complete the registration process.

The commission did not limit the directive to practitioners with expired accreditation, making the fresh registration mandatory for all accredited professionals covered by the notice.

The commission directed practitioners to submit their renewal and re-registration applications through its dedicated online portal at https://insolvency.cac.gov.ng.

Additional information on the process is available on the CAC website at www.cac.gov.ng.

The commission advised all affected professionals to act promptly to ensure compliance with the requirements and prevent interruptions to their practice.

The directive forms part of the CAC’s efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve the management of insolvency practitioners’ records and enhance the security of accreditation certificates in Nigeria.
