Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to resign from the Federal Executive Council if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The minister said he was prepared to take personal responsibility for Tinubu’s electoral performance in the two territories, stressing that he would consider his continued stay in office untenable if the President failed to secure victory there.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.

He further declared that he would resign as FCT Minister if Tinubu lost the presidential election in Rivers State and the FCT.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying political groups in the FCT had reached an agreement to mobilise support for the President across the territory.

He said the coalition would also support candidates contesting legislative seats in the FCT.

“Let us be clear on direction: for the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said.

The minister identified former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and other candidates backed by the coalition as part of the political arrangement.

According to Wike, the coalition represents a firm political agreement among the groups involved, with the engagement involving mechanics and traders serving as the final affirmation of the arrangement.

He urged the stakeholders to remain committed to the agreed political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike has remained an influential political figure in Rivers State and the FCT as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

His latest declaration places his continued tenure as FCT Minister directly against the electoral performance of President Tinubu in the two territories, with Wike setting January 17, 2027, as the date by which he said he would announce his resignation if the stated condition is met.
