Ecobank Nigeria has announced the full repayment of its $300 million eurobond, including both the outstanding principal and accrued interest, originally due on February 16, 2026.
The repayment marks a major milestone in the bank’s liability management strategy and efforts to strengthen its balance sheet.
Following the successful repayment, Ecobank Nigeria said it will prioritize funding initiatives in the domestic capital markets, reflecting increased confidence in Nigeria’s local debt market and aligning with the bank’s long-term goal of optimizing funding costs while deepening participation in the domestic financial ecosystem.
Financial Controller Ogorchukwu Okwechime stated in Lagos, “Going forward, Ecobank Nigeria will prioritize domestic credit ratings and local debt issuance to achieve its funding objectives.”
He added that the successful eurobond repayment reinforces the bank’s commitment to maintaining a resilient balance sheet and sustaining investor confidence.
The tender offer was facilitated by Renaissance Capital Africa (Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited) as financial adviser and dealer manager, with Sodali & Co Limited serving as tender agent.
The notes were originally issued by EBN Finance Company B.V., with limited recourse to the issuer, to finance the purchase of the $300 million 7.125 per cent Senior Note due 2026 issued by Ecobank Nigeria.
The transaction underscores Ecobank Nigeria’s proactive approach to liability management, prudent capital planning, and strategic alignment with evolving market conditions.
The bank is now well-positioned to leverage domestic funding opportunities while maintaining financial flexibility and operational stability.
