President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Tinubu, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Adeleke’s victory reflected the confidence of Osun voters in his leadership.
The President disclosed that he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him, while urging the governor to use his renewed mandate to unite the people of the state and pursue development.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
He urged Adeleke to focus on growth, stability and economic and social development, irrespective of how residents voted during the election.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates for participating in the election, saying their involvement contributed to the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic process.
He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent election.
Atiku: Osun Election Lesson for 2027
Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), also congratulated Adeleke, describing the outcome as an expression of the wishes of Osun voters.
In a statement issued through his media office in Abuja, Atiku said the election demonstrated the importance of voter participation and vigilance in protecting the electoral process.
“The outcome of last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun State is an expression of the wishes of the people, which has earned Governor Adeleke his re-election,” he said.
Atiku urged Nigerians to emulate the level of voter participation recorded in Osun ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also argued that the outcome of the election represented a rejection of the All Progressives Congress (APC), predicting that the party would lose the 2027 general election.
“Nigerians have roundly rejected the APC. The election in Osun State is just a telling indication that the APC will be defeated in the general election in January 2027,” Atiku said.

He urged Adeleke to consolidate on his electoral victory by delivering good governance and making Osun State a model for other states.
Obi Hails Osun Voters
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), also congratulated Adeleke and the people of Osun State.
Obi described the election result as a victory for the people and evidence of active civic participation.
“I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory,” he said.
According to Obi, the election reaffirmed that Nigerians have the constitutional power to choose their leaders through the ballot.
The congratulatory messages from the three prominent presidential figures came as Adeleke prepares to begin another term following his victory at the polls.
