Sahara Upstream has appointed Gopi Nath as Director, Oilfield Services, as the energy company moves to strengthen its oilfield services businesses and expand their capabilities across Africa’s upstream sector.

Nath will provide strategic oversight for Arahas Global Oilfield Services (Arahas) and SGIR Rigs and Energy Limited (SGIR) as the two businesses pursue greater operational integration, expand service offerings and deliver integrated solutions across the upstream value chain.

The development forms part of Sahara Upstream’s broader strategy to build indigenous oilfield services capacity capable of supporting Africa’s evolving energy industry through engineering excellence, operational reliability, innovation and sustainable execution.

Executive Director, Sahara Upstream, Ade Odunsi, said the next phase of growth in Africa’s upstream industry would require strong regional service companies capable of executing increasingly complex projects safely, efficiently and sustainably.

“Building resilient energy systems requires equally resilient service businesses,” Odunsi said.

He noted that Arahas and SGIR were strategically positioned to provide technical expertise, operational excellence and customer-focused solutions to operators across the continent.

According to him, Nath’s appointment would strengthen Sahara’s ability to accelerate the growth of its oilfield services businesses and enhance their contribution to the continent’s energy sector.

“Our objective is not simply to grow two businesses. We are building integrated service platforms capable of supporting exploration, drilling, engineering, project delivery, and production operations at a standard that competes globally while remaining rooted in Africa,” Odunsi said.

Arahas was established to provide oilfield services focused on engineering excellence, operational reliability, innovation and sustainability, while SGIR offers drilling, engineering, project execution and field support services aimed at improving efficiency across upstream operations.

Together, the companies are expected to play a key role in Sahara Upstream’s strategy to deepen local capacity, improve project execution and provide integrated services across the upstream value chain.

Speaking on his appointment, Nath said Sahara had established a strong foundation for developing one of Africa’s leading oilfield services platforms.

“This is an exciting period for Sahara’s oilfield services business. We have exceptional talent, established capabilities, and a clear strategic direction,” he said.

He added that his priorities would include strengthening collaboration between Arahas and SGIR, improving customer value, driving execution excellence and expanding service offerings to meet the changing requirements of Africa’s energy industry.

Nath further said the businesses would continue to focus on safety, innovation, operational performance and stakeholder value while contributing to sustainable energy development across Africa.
