Dangote Industries Limited has signed an $800 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. to transform its Itori Cement Plant in Ogun State into a major production and export hub by doubling its installed capacity to 12 million metric tonnes per annum.

The agreement, signed by Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, and Sinoma Chairman, Lin Zhong, is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s cement export capacity while reinforcing the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading cement producers.

The expansion will increase the Itori plant’s production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes annually, allowing Dangote Cement to meet rising local demand and expand exports to markets across Africa and beyond.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dangote said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s economy and its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda.

He attributed the expansion to the government’s growing adoption of concrete technology for road construction and the company’s ambition to increase exports under its Vision 2030 strategy of producing between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes of cement annually.

Dangote also commended President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling business environment, noting that the investment would generate employment, earn foreign exchange and deepen regional trade.

“This investment will not only strengthen our leadership in Africa’s cement industry but also position Nigeria as a stronger manufacturing and export base for the continent,” he said.
Lin Zhong described the agreement as another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Sinoma and Dangote Group.

He said the Chinese engineering company would deploy advanced technology and global expertise to ensure the successful execution of the project, adding that the expansion would enhance Dangote Cement’s competitiveness and support sustainable industrial development.

The Itori expansion forms part of Dangote Cement’s long-term strategy to increase production capacity, improve operational efficiency and drive export-led growth.

Upon completion, the facility is expected to become one of Nigeria’s largest cement production and export centres, supplying both domestic and international markets while contributing to economic growth and industrial development.
