The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has signed a 2026 performance contract and adopted a communiqué aimed at accelerating industrial growth, expanding trade and attracting investment as part of efforts to drive Nigeria’s economic transformation.

The resolution was reached at the end of the ministry’s two-day 2026 Management Retreat held in Abuja, according to a communiqué issued on Thursday by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Augustina Obilor-Duru.

The communiqué reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to accountability, results-oriented governance and economic transformation through the implementation of a strategic performance contract involving all departments and agencies under its supervision.

The retreat, themed “From Policy to Performance: Driving Industrial Growth, Trade Expansion and Investment Outcomes,” brought together senior management officials, heads of agencies, development partners and other stakeholders to review priorities and strengthen implementation strategies.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, described the retreat as a platform for strategic reflection, collaboration and performance assessment.

She said the ministry remained at the centre of Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda through policies aimed at boosting industrialisation, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.

According to Oduwole, the performance contract underscores the ministry’s commitment to accountability, effective service delivery and the implementation of priority government programmes.

She stressed that stronger coordination among departments and agencies would be critical to translating government policies into measurable economic outcomes.

Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh, said sustainable industrial development would depend on higher productivity, stronger local industries and increased investor confidence.

He noted that expanding exports and promoting domestic manufacturing remained key pillars of the country’s industrial growth strategy.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Chris Isokpunwu, urged participants to align their programmes and budget implementation with national development priorities, stressing that accountability, monitoring and continuous performance evaluation were essential for achieving results.

Also speaking, the Director of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Iya Gamawa, emphasised the importance of strategic alignment, effective performance management and results-based implementation in delivering the ministry’s objectives.

Development partners, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), pledged continued support for the ministry’s reform agenda and industrial transformation initiatives.

Participants at the retreat also reaffirmed their commitment to attracting investment, expanding non-oil exports, creating employment opportunities and advancing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
