The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has alerted the public to the activities of fraudulent individuals claiming to offer contracts on behalf of the Commission, warning Nigerians to be cautious to avoid falling victim to scams.
In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communication and Media, Eniola Akinkuotu, the Commission disclosed that the impostors deploy tactics such as name-dropping and spreading misinformation on social media to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and extort money from them.
The regulator described the perpetrators as unscrupulous and warned them to immediately desist from such illegal acts.
NUPRC clarified that all its contract and procurement processes are conducted transparently and strictly in compliance with the Public Procurement Act, 2007, as well as other relevant regulations.
The Commission stressed that anyone engaging with third parties in a bid to gain undue advantage in securing contracts with the agency does so at their own risk.
It advised prospective contractors and stakeholders seeking procurement information to rely only on official channels, including the Commission’s website and advertisements published in national newspapers for tenders
