President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and their sponsors to surrender immediately or face decisive military action, declaring that the Federal Government’s offer of surrender “will not remain open forever.”

The President issued the warning while reacting to the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held captive by terrorists in Katsina State.

In a statement released over the weekend, Tinubu expressed shock and sadness over the killing of the retired military officer and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The President described the late General as a distinguished officer who served Nigeria with honour throughout his military career before retiring from active service.

According to the statement, General Abubakar was abducted by armed criminals while travelling to his hometown. His wife, who was kidnapped alongside him, remains in captivity.

Tinubu sympathised with the family, particularly the wife of the deceased, and assured Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of all victims still being held by terrorists and kidnappers.

Reacting strongly to the incident, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and criminality across the country.

He warned that the government would not succumb to pressure from terrorists and criminal groups, stressing that those responsible for attacks on innocent Nigerians would face the full weight of the law.

“Bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State,” the President declared.

He added that the current opportunity for criminals to lay down their arms would not last indefinitely.

“These windows of surrender will not remain open forever,” Tinubu said, emphasizing that security forces would continue to intensify operations against terrorist networks and criminal gangs.

The President further vowed that there would be no leniency for individuals involved in acts of terror, kidnapping and violent crimes.

“No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” he stated.

Tinubu reassured citizens that despite ongoing security challenges, the government remains determined to restore peace and security across the country.

He maintained that terrorists and other criminal elements are enemies of the nation and must be confronted decisively, adding that the Federal Government would not negotiate with groups responsible for the loss of innocent lives.

The President expressed confidence that Nigeria would ultimately overcome terrorism and insecurity through sustained military operations and coordinated security efforts.
