Minister of Power, Mr. Joseph Tegbe, has commended the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and improving electricity supply across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the minister praised TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) transformer at the Katampe Transmission Sub-station in Abuja, describing the development as a major boost to transmission capacity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tegbe also lauded the effective collaboration between TCN and AEDC in responding to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer that disrupted power supply to parts of the FCT last Friday.
According to him, both organisations demonstrated professionalism and commitment by swiftly mobilising technical teams and restoring electricity supply within 24 hours of the incident.
He described the rapid response as a clear example of successful inter-agency cooperation and proactive service delivery, in line with the Federal Government’s objective of improving electricity access and reliability.
He further commended the management of NDPHC, led by its Managing Director, Mrs. Jennifer Adighije, for successfully reviving the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State.
Tegbe noted that the power plant, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had remained inactive for three years before its recent restoration.
He explained that the facility is now capable of dispatching up to 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, a development expected to strengthen power supply in the South-East region while enhancing overall grid stability nationwide.

The minister assured workers and agencies in the power sector that excellence, professionalism, and productivity would continue to be recognised and rewarded under his leadership.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding and modernising Nigeria’s power infrastructure, while urging stakeholders across the electricity value chain to remain innovative and focused on delivering improved power supply to homes, businesses, and industries.
Tegbe said the recent achievements underscore the progress being made in the sector and demonstrate the impact of strategic investments and collaboration among key institutions in addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges.
