The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has signed two major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Nigerian Commodity Exchange and the Young Innovators of Nigeria aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s clean energy transition, strengthening agro-industrial productivity, and driving innovation-led economic development.
The agreements, according to the agency, reflect REA’s expanding role beyond electricity access, positioning it as a national platform for productive use infrastructure, industrial growth, innovation, and sustainable economic transformation.
The first agreement, signed with the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX), focuses on establishing a National Collaborative Framework for Agro-Industrial Cluster Development, Renewable Energy Deployment, and Commodity Trade Formalisation across Nigeria in support of the Federal Government’s food security agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Under the partnership, NCX and REA will collaborate to integrate renewable energy infrastructure into agricultural value chains nationwide.
The initiative is expected to establish a scalable model linking reliable solar-powered energy systems with commodity aggregation, processing, storage, trading, and export infrastructure.
According to the agency, the collaboration will help reduce post-harvest losses, improve value retention for agricultural produce, strengthen food security, stimulate agro-industrial productivity, and boost non-oil foreign exchange earnings.
REA noted that the partnership underscores the growing connection between energy access and agricultural productivity as key drivers of national economic development.
The second agreement, signed with Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN), focuses on the co-hosting and implementation of the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED), an initiative designed to promote clean energy, innovation, digital transformation, and smart mobility.
YIN, described as a leading national platform bridging Nigeria’s digital skills gap, has empowered over 30,000 young Nigerians through innovation, STEM education, entrepreneurship support, mentorship, and technology-driven capacity-building programmes.
Through the collaboration, REA will provide institutional support and technical expertise to strengthen the clean energy and sustainability aspects of the initiative while participating in exhibitions, policy dialogues, hackathons, stakeholder engagements, and implementation of outcomes from the dialogue.
The partnership is also expected to deepen conversations around renewable energy, emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, youth development, and sustainable infrastructure systems in Nigeria.

Speaking on the significance of the agreements, REA reaffirmed its commitment to building integrated development ecosystems capable of driving inclusive economic growth, productive enterprise, innovation, and sustainable livelihoods across the country.
The agency added that the partnerships further demonstrate its evolving role in connecting renewable energy deployment with broader national priorities including food security, industrialisation, technology innovation, youth empowerment, and economic resilience.
