The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called on Nigerians to exercise extraordinary religious tolerance as Christians celebrate the Easter season.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, the monarch described Easter as a period symbolising sacrifice, renewal, and the triumph of hope over adversity.
According to Oba Ogunwusi, the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ carries profound lessons on selflessness, forgiveness, and unwavering faith, which Nigerians should reflect upon in daily life.
He emphasised that national progress and stability are closely tied to unity among citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and stressed that peaceful coexistence remains the bedrock of sustainable development.
The Ooni encouraged Nigerians to use the Easter period to pray for the country, its leaders, and for peace and economic recovery, while urging citizens to remain hopeful, resilient, and optimistic despite socio-economic challenges.

He also called on leaders to demonstrate compassion, integrity, and accountability, highlighting that true leadership embodies the sacrificial spirit exemplified during Easter.
The monarch reiterated his commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and mutual respect, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.
Concluding his message, the Ooni wished Christians a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Easter, praying that the season brings renewed hope, peace, and prosperity to every home and the nation at large.
