The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms claiming he had resigned his appointment, describing them as false and misleading.
Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bolaji Tunji, made the clarification while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Tunji urged media practitioners to uphold professionalism by verifying information before publication, warning against the spread of unverified reports.
The false report had alleged that Adelabu resigned his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, Bola Tinubu had earlier directed all political appointees intending to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31.
The directive, issued in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, aims to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.
It was conveyed through a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the directive, affected officials are required to submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation not later than March 31.
President Tinubu emphasised that the move is intended to promote transparency, ensure adherence to electoral laws, and create a level playing field for all aspirants.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and fostering credible electoral processes in Nigeria.
